The President held a meeting on the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters

The President of Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, held a meeting dedicated to eliminating the consequences of natural disasters that occurred in the republic this year and providing assistance to citizens affected by emergencies.

Opening the meeting, the Head of State noted that in the first nine months of this year, more than 40 emergencies related to natural disasters were recorded in Abkhazia.

Natural disasters damage not only the infrastructure and economy of the republic, but primarily affect citizens, their homes and personal farms. The President noted that it is impossible to predict such situations, so each time the state has to find additional funds that were not initially provided for in the budget.

Badra Gunba stressed that the state is doing everything necessary to provide assistance to the affected citizens.

The Head of State expressed gratitude to the citizens, heads of enterprises and organizations, as well as to all those who participated in the elimination of the consequences of major natural disasters that occurred in Tkuarchal district, Duripsh village of Gudauta district and other settlements.

"In difficult situations, we have once again shown our unity and mutual support. I sincerely thank everyone who did not stand aside and helped in the aftermath of natural disasters," the President said.

According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of funds needed to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters and provide assistance to victims is about 700 million rubles. To date, it has been decided to allocate 306 million rubles for these purposes.

Chairman, Deputy Prime Minister Jansukh Nanba, of the State Commission for the Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters reported on the work

He said that 11 meetings of the commission have been held to date. Decisions were made to provide assistance for 26 infrastructure facilities totaling 245 million rubles, as well as for 229 applications from citizens totaling 34 million rubles.

Currently, issues are under consideration for 14 infrastructure facilities, the amount of necessary financing for which is 145 million rubles, as well as 29 applications from citizens totaling about 6 million rubles.

In addition, work continues on the consequences of the natural disaster that occurred last month to determine the extent of the damage and collect the necessary documents.

Prime Minister Vladimir Delba noted that no emergency situation or natural disaster is ignored by the Government. Measures are also being taken to prevent and minimize the consequences of such situations.

Separately, the meeting discussed the water supply situation in seven villages of the Gudauta district and parts of the city of Gudauta affected by the mudslide.

Demir Gamisonia, Head of the Capital Construction Department, reported on the ongoing work. He said that currently the water supply to settlements is organized according to a temporary scheme. At the same time, water is supplied according to schedule in two villages, and the pressure remains insufficient due to the technical features of the current system.

According to Demir Gamisonia, the necessary pipes have already been ordered. Over the next two months, it is planned to carry out work that will fully restore the water supply system.

Summing up the meeting, Badra Gunba instructed the Government to find additional reserves to finance measures to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters and provide assistance to affected citizens.

The President stressed that in the current situation, priority should be given to this particular work. In this regard, he instructed to temporarily suspend certain planned activities that are not of a priority nature and to use the available resources to solve problems that have arisen as a result of emergency situations.

The Head of State also called on managers at all levels to act as promptly as possible in case of emergencies — to be at their workplaces from the moment information is received, to make the necessary decisions in a timely manner and not to allow delays in providing assistance to the population.

In addition, the President drew attention to the need to strengthen control over the validity of the provision of state aid. According to the information available to law enforcement agencies, cases of providing false information to the commission about the damage caused in order to receive payments are being identified.

Badra Gunba instructed to ensure thorough verification of all appeals and stressed that state aid should be provided exclusively to those citizens who really suffered as a result of natural disasters.

In conclusion, the Head of State thanked the citizens for their understanding and endurance and assured that the state would do everything possible not to leave its citizens alone with the problems that had arisen as a result of natural disasters.
