President Badra Gunba discussed the results of the checkpoints' activities at the state border of Abkhazia for nine months.

The results of the checkpoints' activities at the state border of the Republic of Abkhazia with the Russian Federation along the Psou River and with Georgia along the Ingur River for the first nine months of the current year were discussed at a meeting between President Badra Gunba and Chairman of the State Security Service Dmitry Dbar and Head of the Border Department of the State Security Service Rustam Latipov.

Chairman of the State Security Service Dmitry Dbar reported on cooperation with Russian border services, noting that cooperation in this area is fully established.

He also informed about the situation on the state border along the Ingur River. At this site, state border violators are identified and detained. Detainees are taken to the district department of the State Security Committee, where the issue of bringing them to justice is decided in accordance with the law.

The Head of the Border Department of the State Security Service, Rustam Latipov, reported on the results of the checkpoints' activities for the first nine months of 2026, presenting information on passenger traffic, vehicle movement, and the organization of work on the main sections of the state border.

Approximately 8.5 million people and 1.8 million vehicles passed through the "Psou" checkpoint on the Abkhazian-Russian state border during the reporting period.

The issues of organizing the work of the checkpoint during periods of temporary suspension of its activities due to the threat of drone attacks were also discussed. The need to ensure the safety of citizens awaiting passage resumption, as well as to maintain interaction with Russian border and customs services for the prompt resolution of emerging issues, has been noted.

On the Abkhazian-Georgian state border, over nine months of the current year, including at the "Ingur" and "Papanirkhua" crossing points, 965,423 crossings by citizens and 52,780 vehicles were recorded.

Having heard the reports, the President noted the significant amount of work done and emphasized the need for further improvement of border crossing conditions.

We need to create comfortable conditions for crossing the state border. Until recently, the main route through which a large number of people passed remained the "Psou" checkpoint. Today, it is possible to arrive in Abkhazia by air thanks to the opening of air traffic through the Vladislav Ardzinba Sukhum Airport. Sea and rail transport are also developing.

The reconstruction of transport infrastructure in the Russian Federation will create conditions for a significant increase in passenger traffic both to Abkhazia and in the opposite direction. We must be ready for this. It is necessary to consider the possibility of expanding our border crossing point so that there are no capacity limitations on the Abkhazian side. "Please prepare relevant proposals and submit them for consideration," said Badra Gunba.

The Head of State thanked the border unit employees and the leadership of the State Security Committee for their work.

I would like to note the work of the border detachment and the agency as a whole. Today, the tasks facing the state are being fulfilled. Thank you for your service and for the work you have done. We see a high level of interaction. I ask you to continue to maintain the same close cooperation with your Russian colleagues.

Special attention should be paid to the comfortable crossing of the border by cargo during the citrus season. Behind every such shipment lies the immense labor of our farmers, significant expenses, and the expectations of agricultural producers. We must fully support them in realizing export opportunities.

"I ask you to keep this issue under control daily until the end of the citrus season and to promptly interact with our Russian colleagues to resolve any emerging problems," the President instructed.

Another issue was ensuring the safety of citizens during periods of temporary suspension of the "Psou" checkpoint due to the operation of air defense systems on the Russian side.

"I know that in similar situations, the operation of the checkpoint is temporarily suspended." Please consider possible options for the safe stay of citizens who are currently at the border and cannot continue their movement. "It is necessary to work out a mechanism of actions and prepare a clear instruction for such situations to ensure people's safety," Badra Gunba emphasized.

The President also drew attention to the incoming reports of cases of prolonged checks of some citizens of Abkhazia when crossing the state border.

"There are isolated reports that some of our citizens are encountering certain inconveniences when crossing the state border." I ask you, within the framework of interdepartmental cooperation with Russian colleagues, to verify the accuracy of this information, and to ascertain the circumstances and causes of such situations.

"I am confident that within the framework of our cooperation, we will be able to resolve the emerging problems and ensure that the citizens of Abkhazia cross the 'Psou' checkpoint without additional inconvenience," said the Head of State.

Summing up the meeting, Badra Gunba emphasized that effective work of border services is of great importance for the socio-economic development of the country.

Today, economic processes, the social sphere, foreign trade turnover, and the tourism industry are directly linked to the effective work of border services and the development of transport links. "I ask you to competently and professionally exercise the powers vested in you, ensure close cooperation with your Russian colleagues, and promptly respond to emerging issues," the President concluded.
