The Security Council of the Republic of Abkhazia is a constitutional body that prepares decisions of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia on issues of ensuring the security of vital interests of the individual, society and the state from internal and external threats, and implementing a unified state policy in the field of security.

The Security Council is formed by the President of the Republic of Abkhazia and is a body that ensures the conditions for the implementation by the President of the Republic of Abkhazia of his constitutional powers to protect the rights and freedoms of man and citizen, protect the sovereignty of the Republic of Abkhazia, its independence and state integrity.

Other officials appointed by the President of the Republic of Abkhazia may also be members of the Security Council.

The work of the Security Council is headed by the Chairman of the Security Council - the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.

Security Council meetings are held on a regular basis in accordance with plans approved by the Chairman of the Security Council. If necessary, extraordinary meetings of the Security Council may be held.

The Secretary of the Security Council organizes meetings of the Security Council and ensures the preparation of draft decisions.

The Secretary of the Security Council is an official of the Republic of Abkhazia and reports directly to the President of the Republic of Abkhazia. Appointed to and dismissed from office by the President of the Republic of Armenia. The activities of the Security Council are provided by the staff of the Security Council, headed by the Secretary.

The staff of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia provides organizational, technical and informational and analytical support for the activities of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia in implementing its powers in the field of security of the individual, society and the state.
