President Badra Gunba discussed the results of his working visit to Moscow with Foreign Minister Oleg Bartsits.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Bartsits reported to President Badra Gunba on the results of his working visit to Moscow and his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

According to Oleg Bartsits, the meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. The parties exchanged views on a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, and also discussed cooperation in the international arena.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to issues affecting the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia. In particular, issues were discussed regarding the military registration of Abkhaz students studying in Russian universities, extending the period of stay for citizens of Abkhazia in Russia to 180 days, as well as ensuring the possibility of crossing the state border for citizens with dual citizenship using one of their passports, specifically the national passport of the Republic of Abkhazia.

As the minister noted, a constructive exchange of views took place on the issues raised. Work on their settlement will continue within the framework of bilateral dialogue.

Oleg Bartsits separately informed the President about the work on individual cases involving citizens of Abkhazia who found themselves in difficult legal situations in Russia. In particular, the discussion concerned Irakli Bzhinava, who is under investigation by the Russian competent authorities. According to the minister, the Abkhaz side maintains constant contact with their Russian counterparts, and also interacts with the citizen's relatives and lawyers. A consular visit to Irakli Bzhinava recently took place, as well as a meeting with his mother, which was permitted by the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation. The minister noted that there are still unresolved issues, however, they are the prerogative of the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation, and the Abkhazian side treats this with respect.

"Work on these issues continues at your direction," the minister said.

During the meeting with Sergey Lavrov, issues of coordinating foreign policy and expanding Abkhazia's international contacts were also discussed, including with countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Oleg Barcits emphasized that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sergey Lavrov personally provide Abkhazia with comprehensive support in developing international cooperation.

The minister announced that he will participate in the "Russia-Africa" international forum at the end of October, where he expects to hold a series of meetings and establish new contacts.

Having heard the report of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President emphasized the strategic importance of allied relations with the Russian Federation and the need for their further strengthening.

The Head of State instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue working on issues affecting the interests of Abkhaz citizens in Russia, ensuring the necessary legal support both in Moscow and in other regions of the Russian Federation.

Badra Gunba noted that work on all such cases should be carried out consistently and in full, taking into account the legislation of the Russian Federation and within the framework of constructive interstate dialogue.
